Only seven days a week...

Monday:  Wash Day
Lord, help me wash away all my selfishness and
vanity, so I may serve you with perfect humility
Through the week ahead.

Tuesday:   Ironing Day
Dear Lord, help me iron out all the wrinkles
Of prejudice I have collected through the years

So that I may see the beauty in others.

O God, help me mend my ways so I will not
Set a bad example for others.

Thursday:  Cleaning Day
O God, help me to dust out all the many faults I have been hiding in the secret corners of my heart.

Friday:  Shopping Day
O God, give me the grace to shop wisely so I may purchase eternal happiness for myself and all others In need of love.

Saturday:  Cooking Day
Help me, my God, to brew a big kettle of brotherly
love and serve it with clean, sweet bread of human kindness.

Sunday:  The Lord's Day
O God, I have prepared my house for you. Please
Come into my heart so I may spend the day and the

Rest of my life in your presence.

Homestyle Cornbread

Today is a chilly, rainy day in Holmes County...it's been raining since last evening and shows now signs of letting up.  So I wanted to make some nice, rainy-day comfort food.  This morning I started a big pot of pinto beans with ham chunks and let it simmer for hours. To go with the beans I made cornbread muffins.  Cornbread muffins are a favorite in our house, even with my "Yankee" husband.  They go along side most any meal, but especially with soups and chili.

In a mixing bowl :

Mix 1 c milk, 1/4 c melted and cooled butter (do not substitute), 1 egg, 1 1/4 cup yellow cornmeal, 1 cup flour (can be 1/2 whole wheat), 1/2 cup sugar, 3 teaspoons baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt. Preheat oven to 400. Grease pan(s) for 12 muffins. Fill muffin cups 3/4 full. Bake 20-25 minutes. Serve warm.  Leftovers can be saved in freezer to add to dressing/stuffing.

For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord,
plans for welfare and not for calamity, to give you a future
and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11

All Saint's Eve sampler

This adorable little sampler is available at http://www.christianpatterns.com/autumn/Christian-Fall-Halloween-patterns.htm     I just love the message!

One of our favorite fall snacks is a simple mixture of one bag of Brach's (no substitutes!) candy corn mixed with one can of cocktail peanuts.  That's it.   Sweet and savory. Mmmmm. Won't last long :D

Frugal fall decorating

Using some clippings from flowers and trees around the yard I tied them with twine onto a trellis. Voila!   I love the sights and smells of autumn...crunching of leaves...chilling mornings...smell of firewood burning....
